The HOVG Podcast: 2023 Top Ten Episodes (Part Two)

After eight years and more than 400 episodes, it would be really easy to coast and put out a “didja hear about this?” podcast, but we strive to do something different from week to week.

From a late night cue card king to a cheese-rolling champ. From our annual visit from everyone’s favorite “Cooperstown correspondent” to a guy who is educating Scotland about America’s pastime. We’ve covered it all and then some.

Oh, and did we mention Jon Freakin’ Hamm? We even celebrated our 400th episode AND introduced the world to Princemas!

Now, without further ado… what were the top ten listened to episodes of The Hall of Very Good Podcast?

Here you go!

10. WALLY FERESTEN (Episode 377)

The late night cue card master re-joins the boys to talk about whether or not he has reconciled with Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski, how close New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge came to hosting “Saturday Night Live”, where Charles Barkley ranks on the all-time athlete hosting list (and that time Will Forte tried to get the NBA legend to fight him), what cast members are big baseball fans and shares possibly the coolest SNL souvenir anyone could own.

9. ABBY LAMPE (Episode 364)

8. KENNETH GATEWOOD (Episode 367)
The renowned watercolorist (and fellow member of the Graig Kreindler Appreciation Society!) joins the boys to talk about getting his start painting Los Angeles storefronts and billboards, partying with Magic Johnson and Lawrence Taylor, impressing the legendary Muhammad Ali and, yeah, the elephant in the room…those iconic and precious Baby Sports.
7. KENNY HILLYARD (Episode 359)
The Fred McGriff supercollector joins the boys to talk about how a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan, born and raised in Texas, amasses a collection of more than 47,000 items dedicated to the “Crime Dog”, shares what “Mrs. McGriff Collector” thinks of his obsession and that time the whole thing was stolen.
6. JOE POSNANSKI (Episode 389)
The New York Times bestselling author joins the boys to talk about his new book, Why We Love Baseball: A History in 50 Moments, the trouble had whittling the history of baseball down to 50 awesome moments (spoiler alert: there’s actually 108!), who he shared his list with (and who he didn’t), how Duane Kuiper fits into his lifelong fandom and his friendship with the legendary Buck O’Neil.
